Medical Imaging Services in East Brunswick, NJ

620 Cranbury Road, Suite 10, East Brunswick, NJ 08816

Access the future of MRI with medical imaging services in East Brunswick, NJ. Certain problems will not be detected in a static, flat position. At ImageCare East Brunswick, we are committed to providing you with exceptional diagnostic imaging through Upright MRI technology.

Upright Multi-Position™ MRI

This new era in diagnosis is made possible by the unique capabilities of the Fonar Upright® Multi-Position™ MRI. It’s the first MRI that has the power to provide full range-of-motion diagnosis – with the nerves, discs, and other soft tissue in clear view. It achieves truly physiologic MRI, instead of recumbent-only, static MRI which can leave spinal compression undetectable since it occurs in a standing or sitting position. Traditional MRI requires you to lay down, which naturally relieves any spinal compression, so the issues you experience while your spine is compressed might not be visible. Our Upright Multi-Position™ MRI enables scans while standing or sitting, inducing spinal compression to replicate the conditions that cause pain or other discomfort.

Since our MRI scanners are open, there is ample space for someone to accompany you into the scanner room and even hold your hand during the scan.

What to Expect

Prior to your MRI appointment, you will be informed of any necessary preparations. This will vary depending on the part of the body being scanned. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing, although a gown will be provided if necessary. Be sure to bring your doctor’s prescription with you when you come for your MRI exam.

Mammography

A Mammogram – or x-ray of your breast tissue – is one of the most effective examinations available for detecting early stages of breast cancer. Although Mammography is the most accurate method for early detection, not all cancers are found through Mammograms alone. Therefore, your Mammogram, an annual physical by your doctor, and your monthly (BSE) Breast Self-Examination work together to find changes or abnormalities.

What a mammogram detects:

  • Abnormalities in breast tissue
  • Cancer
  • Calcium buildup
  • Lumps of fatty cells
  • Cysts

Mammography is a trusted way to understand what could potentially bring on health issues in the breasts. While calcification and fatty cells are not problematic, it is important to receive a diagnosis from a doctor who will analyze the areas where they are found. This procedure will help your doctor understand your condition and prevent more severe complications.

Around 5-10% of breast cancer is a direct result of genetic mutations passed on from a parent. Typically, hereditary breast cancer is an inherited mutation in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene. Women with one of these mutations are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 40. Additionally, these gene mutations may lead to the development of cancer in both breasts.

Ultrasound

What is an Ultrasound?

Ultrasound uses sound waves to visualize internal organs. A special instrument called a transducer has tiny crystals inside that, when excited by an electrical current, emit sound waves above the audible range. The sound waves are sent into the body and bounce off internal organs. The transducer then picks up these rebounding sound waves and, with the aid of a computer, displays the returning sound waves as a picture representing the organ(s) of interest. Ultrasound does not involve radiation. This unique feature is why so many doctors refer pregnant women for ultrasound examinations of their unborn baby. Ultrasound has had many advances in the last few years. Technologists can examine in detail other anatomical structures, such as the baby’s heart.

X-Ray

What is X-Ray Radiology?

Conventional X-Ray radiography is the oldest and most widely utilized form of diagnostic imaging. An X-Ray is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Imaging with X-rays involves exposing a part of the body to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body.

Our radiologists can use a variety of methods to produce images, each tailored to provide the best view of the organ or structure of interest.

Do I Need an X–Ray?

X-ray imaging is the fastest and easiest way for a physician to view and assess broken bones, joints, or spine injuries. We accept walk-in X-rays at all three of our locations and offer very competitive self-pay prices.

X-rays play a key role in guiding orthopedic surgery and treating sports-related injuries. X-rays may uncover more advanced forms of cancer in bones, although early screening for cancer requires other methods.

What Do I Need To Do Before My X-Ray?

No special preparation is required for most bone radiographs. You may be asked to change into a gown before your examination. You will also be asked to remove jewelry, eyeglasses, and any metal objects that could appear on the images and overlap with significant findings. Women should always inform their doctor or x-ray technologist if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.

Walk-in patients are welcome for X-rays.

DEXA

What is a Bone Density Scan?

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) is considered the most advanced and reliable method for measuring bone density. ImageCare Centers provides bone density scans in New Jersey for patients who need their bone mineral density measured to assess bone strength and fracture risk. Our DEXA scans in northern New Jersey are easy to perform, painless, and expose the patient to a low dose of radiation.

A DEXA bone density scan procedure is performed by producing two X-ray beams with different energy levels, one high and one low. The number of X-rays that pass through the bone is measured for each beam, and the result varies with the bone’s thickness. The difference between the two beams’ measurements will be used to determine the bone’s density.
