An Expert’s Guide to Breaking Down the Breast Cancer Screening Methods
Medical technology is moving quickly, and breast cancer screening is no different. Early & regular testing in conjunction with the right tests have been cited as being one of the most effective means of breast cancer prevention.
Watch the above video where our Medical Director, Dr. Lisa Marie Sheppard**, not only breaks down all the methods of breast cancer screening, but also shows you side by side comparisons of what each can see and which tests you should combine to get a fuller picture (pun very much intended).
The video breaks down the following methods of screening:
- 2D Mammogram
- 2D Ultrasound
- 3D Mammogram
- 3D Ultrasound
As Dr. Sheppard outlines in the video, having dense breasts is one of the many signals to your Mammographer that you might need to mix and match these tests. Breast density, along with age and cancer history will help you and your doctor move in the right direction. As we mentioned before, medical technology advances quickly, and as of this writing, the standard breast screening tests that PINK Breast Center uses are 3D Mammogram and 2D Ultrasound. Please be sure to speak with your doctor is you have any questions about these tests.
