Several Options for Conducting Musculoskeletal Imaging in New Jersey
When a patient experiences issues in their bones, joints, or associated soft tissue, ImageCare Radiology can administer musculoskeletal imaging in New Jersey to provide a diagnosis and help their physician develop a plan for treatment. There are several options for conducting a musculoskeletal imaging procedure, and your doctor may refer you for one or more of those options depending on your issue and if another type of imaging is unsuccessful:
- CT Scan: This imaging procedure can acquire detailed images of the musculoskeletal system by scanning bones and muscles individually in two-dimensional “slices,” or as a whole three-dimensional image. This helps medical providers identify musculoskeletal injuries and conditions such as bone damage, lesions, fractures, muscle damage, tumors, infections, blood clots, and internal bleeding.
- MRI: This imaging procedure is used to detect issues in the bones and soft tissue. It can depict soft tissue injuries and abnormalities with better sensitivity and specificity than conventional imaging techniques.
- Ultrasound: This imaging procedure can be used to look at specific soft tissue structures and the blood flow in vessels within the soft tissues in greater detail. Additionally, this imaging technique is also used to guide injections for the delivery of medication into joints, tendons, bursas, cysts, ganglions, and neuromas. These images are produced in real time, allowing the radiologist to continually monitor and adjust the position of the injection.
- X-ray: X-rays provide an accurate and reliable way to diagnose bone fractures, joint malalignment, arthritis, or the cause of other painful conditions. Musculoskeletal X-ray scans can penetrate the soft tissue in the body but do not go through more dense tissue such as bones or foreign objects, providing clear images of the skeletal system.
